What is a Story U?

Story U are educational initiatives developed by FSA for the benefit of its members and the public.

Our goal is to provide high-quality, affordable opportunities for tellers and non-tellers alike to enhance their skills and appreciation of storytelling in community, family, and performance settings. The intensive sessions encompass a variety of story-related topics.

Typically scheduled as a one- to two-day event, StoryLabs take place throughout the state, and are a terrific way to expand your storytelling expertise!

Story U Proposal Guidelines

Because Story U are designed to respond to the needs of local groups, organizations and communities, the Story U Committee encourages you to submit ideas for programs in your area.

You can do this in two ways:

  1. E-mail the Story U chair to set up an appointment to discuss who and what would be appropriate, or
  2. Choose teller(s), determine the subject and target audience and contact the Story U chair with a plan already fairly well mapped out.

In either case, we will need to determine the following information:

  1. Teller/facilitator
  2. Topic
  3. Local chair(s) and committee, contact information
  4. Local partner(s) (alternate source of funding, resources, registrations, etc., to share risk and responsibilities)
  5. Date/time
  6. Location (free locations are preferable)
  7. Fees (Story U fees generally vary from $49-$79 for FSA members)
  8. Additional arrangements (media needs, food, evaluations, etc.)
  9. Promotional plan
  10. Expenses
